The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic is going to invest approximately 64 million euros in new road camera systems..
These modern devices will be placed on road sections known for a high number of traffic accidents.Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj Eštok, a member of the Hlas-SD party, informed about this step on Wednesday after the government meeting.
The new cameras will be used to monitor various traffic violations, such as using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seat belt, ignoring a red light or illegal overtaking.
«These are technologically advanced camera systems that will be able to identify these offenses and thereby contribute to road safety,» said the minister.
According to him, the main goal of this project is to reduce the number of traffic accidents on dangerous road sections.Drivers will be notified in advance of the presence of the cameras so they know they are being watched.
The public procurement also includes systems for measuring speed on certain sections, which will preferably be deployed in tunnels. The Ministry of the Interior has already announced public procurement for these systems in the past, but due to the number of comments, which reached up to 500, the original procurement from 2023 had to be canceled and now revised.
