A decrease in the number of births
In the second quarter of 2024, 11,345 children were born in Slovakia.Compared to the same period last year, this is a decrease of 838 newborns.
On the other hand, the number of deaths reached 12,187, which represents a decrease of 428 persons compared to the second quarter of 2023.The total natural population decline thus reached 842 persons, which is 410 persons less than in the same period a year ago.
Immigration and overall decline
During the second quarter of 2024, 411 people were added to Slovakia thanks to foreign migration.A total of 1,496 people immigrated, while 1,085 people decided to leave the country.The total population decrease for this period is 431 persons, which is 474 less than in the same period of 2023.
These data point to a continuing trend of population decline in Slovakia, while the negative demographic development continues thanks to the lower number of births and only a slight increase from migration.
